Keratosis Pilaris – Everything you need to know about it

Keratosis Pilaris

Table of Contents

Keratosis Pilaris (also known as KP) is a common skin condition characterized by rough patches or bumps on the arms, legs, back, chest, shoulders, buttocks, thighs, knees, and sometimes even the face. The cause of keratosis pilaris is unknown, although apparently genetics play a role.

KP usually begins during puberty and worsens throughout adolescence. It often clears up after age 30. There is no cure for KP, but mainstream treatment options include topical creams, oral medications, laser therapy, surgery and especially regular microdermabrasion and/or exfoliation. Depending on the method of exfoliation, it can bring mild results or totally keep your “chicken skin” under control.

“KP is caused by inflammation of hair follicles,” says Dr. David L. Katz, MD, FACS, author of Living Well with Keratosis Pilaris. “It affects both men and women equally.”

The most common form of KP is called seborrheic dermatitis. This type of KP appears in areas where oil glands are located, such as the scalp, eyebrows, eyelids, ears, nose, lips, chin, cheeks, neck, chest, armpits, groin, underarms, feet, hands, and fingers.

Best Treatment for Keratosis Pilaris (KP)

Treatment methods vary depending on the severity of your symptoms and what you want to do about them. If you have mild KP, you may be able to treat it yourself at home using one of these natural remedies:

– use gentle and natural cleanser on your skin only as chemical products can aggreviate the condition,

– moisturizing only with natural products,

– If your skin is irritated, try applying a light layer of aloe vera gel to help soothe the skin,

– Keep your nails short and clean and as avoid the tendency to scretch your skin,

-Wear loose clothing when outdoors to avoid chafing.

– Take care not to get sunburned and if you use sunscreen, make sure it only has natural ingredients,

– Wash your bedding, especially your pillowcase regularly,

– Change all the chemicals you use in your home to natural version such as washing powder and dishwashing liquid,

– Stay away from hot showers and baths.

– Make sure you are well hydrated and eat lots of fresh, raw fruit and vegetables, as this will have the biggest effect on your condition

-Avoid stress

– Get enough sleep

– Avoid stress.

– Limit alcohol consumption.

-Avoid smoking.

The good news is – while KP can be uncomfortable and unsightly, it is not life threatening. But – it definitely can affect our life in a really big way…

Baiden Mitten Success Stories for KP

Smooth skin…… it does not have to be just a dream:

“I use this exclusively as the only treatment for my keratosis pilaris and no other exfoliator on the market has done the same job as this. I love it!”
– Jessica Chen

“I love the Baiden Mitten. I bought 2 of them for family members because I am so impressed with them & how they exfoliate all the built-up dead skin. After the first use, I noticed a vast improvement by decreasing the bumps on my upper arms.”

– Alyce

“I’ve been using the Baiden Mitten for over 10 years, and in that time, it’s become my 2nd bff! I ‘ve had KP since I was a kid, and it’s always made me feel “less than”. Kids would ask me if I had some kind of skin disease, and if it was “catching”. I hated wearing sleeveless tops, and only did so when it was super, super hot. I learned that being in the sun helped, but I hated being in the sun (!). I would force myself to lay out in the backyard for as long as I could – about 20 minutes. So when I discovered the Baiden Mitten, and what it could do, I was elated! I used it every day, and in only a couple of days I saw my bumps flatten, and my skin getting smoother. That was years ago, and I still use the Mitten daily. My skin is so soft and smooth. I do it for ME, but my husband notices, too! Thanks, Baiden Mitten!

– Diana Mischler

“I love my Baiden mittens! I’ve been using them consistently for 4+ years and my skin looks fabulous. I suffer from keratosis pilaris, also known as “chicken skin”, on my arms, and the Baiden mitten really helps keep it under control and lessens the visibility of my KP! It also helps my skin products work more effectively because they don’t have to penetrate a layer of dead skin. I love the Baiden mitten and have gifted it to my mom and friends, who all love it, too! I’m a loyal customer for life!!!”

– Lindsay M.
